Award-Winning Best Worst Movie Coming to Theaters

Papa Llama | February 25, 2010

Troll 2 is known as the “best worst movie” for many reasons. We unabashedly love this movie. Unlike Ed Wood’s masterpieces of terrible filmmaking, Troll 2 has no slow parts. It’s interesting and mind bogglingly weird from beginning to end.
After the Action Flick Chick reviewed it, (“Troll 2 (1990): Reasons Not to Eat Green Eggs [...]

The quantum Thundercats phenomenon

Alex Langley | December 22, 2009

In the 1980’s, Rankin/Bass stumbled onto cartoon gold when they created… Thundercats!

Yes, Thundercats, A cartoon about a team of animal-themed people fighting badguys in an other-worldly, sci-fi setting! Also a popular comic book and toy line, Thundercats was a major force in the 1980’s little kid demographic. And it’s no wonder, I mean, friggin’ look [...]

A Red Letter Date in the History of Science: Flux Capacitor Day!

Papa Llama | November 5, 2009

While our friend Action Flick Chick Katrina Hill celebrates Guy Fawkes Day with a review of V for Vendetta, we at Rocket Llama Headquarters wish to remind one and all that today marks the 54th anniversary of the invention of time travel.
“Here’s a red letter date in the history of science, November 5th 1955…That was [...]

Forum Fridays: House Rules

Nick | October 23, 2009

This is just a compilation of house rules I found on a thread called “What are your house rules?” where people listed short and sweet summaries of what kind of stuff they do in their D&D campaigns. Here, I’m going to break down why I think some are pretty nifty, to pretty mediocre, to pretty stupid.

Forum Fridays: A New Series of Articles

Nick | October 16, 2009

I peruse the D&D forums a fair amount. There’s a lot on mix-max theories, home-brewed rules, and arguments why something new introduced in a supplemental book or magazine is lame or breaks the game. It’s a lot of people obsessing over theoretical nonsense instead of what makes the game actually fun or interesting. Forum Fridays brings you the gems that I manage to find in the desolate wasteland that is the official D&D forums.

A review of the 4th Power Project (so far)

Nick | October 15, 2009

Dave Chalker (calls himself “The Game” on this website) has taken it upon himself to translate d20 Modern into 4th Edition D&D’s set of rules, using the minimization of options as his guideline for gameplay. See what he’s been up to in this review!

D&D Insider Review: Fighter, The Great Weapon

Nick | October 13, 2009

A lot of people complained that the Fight Weapon Talents included in the original Player’s Handbook were far inferior to Martial Power’s Tempest Technique. This Dragon Magazine article aims to redeem such a mistake.

Review of the new D&D Class: The Seeker (Primal Power preview)

Nick | October 12, 2009

Beautiful and obvious. This class is conceptually what the 3rd Edition Ranger was. An archer that wields the power of nature on his side, shooting arrows and wielding magic. I loved the classic Ranger. One of my favorite characters ever was part of a Ranger-Paladin duo. I’m glad to see it return in spirit with a name that I dig a lot

D&D Insider Review: Fighter Essentials

Nick | October 8, 2009

I wasn’t doing these D&D Insider articles a few months back, so it’s taken me a bit to go back and mentally digest the plethora of material that was already available.

D&D Insider Review: The Raven Queen’s Champions

Nick | October 7, 2009

This was far more robust than the entry they had on Bahamut awhile back. The stuff detailed in here are the most relevant towards the Shadar-Kai and Revenant races. After giving the Revenants a gander in the Compendium, I’ve come to realize they’ve grown into quite a hefty race.

The Fighter Across the Tabletop

Nick | August 24, 2009

The Fighter has always been one of the principal aspects of your basic party in D&D. He’d be the one guy that doesn’t die during the first adventure of your 2nd Edition campaign.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Today at Blizzcon, the annual convention held by the creators of World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft, the new expansion for WoW was announced- World of Warcraft: Cataclysm! Here are some highlights of the new features of the expansion pack:

New! Across the Tabletop

Nick | August 17, 2009

I started writing this article with the intent of just reviewing over Pathfinder again after having a better grasp of 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. It ended up turning into a pretty massive document, so I’ve instead turned it into a 12-part weekly series comparing the classic 11 classes from the 3rd Edition Player’s Handbook as compared to Pathfinder, 4th Edition, and some other tabletop roleplaying games.
